Trail Cam Pics

With the Ohio bow season kicking off in just a couple of weeks here, I decided to head over to the woods yesterday after work and pull the trail cam sd card.  After seeing a couple of younger bucks in some of the pics that we've captured before, needless to say, I was extremely excited to see this guy:

Not quite sure on this buck, he may need another year, but it'd definitely be nice to see him under the stand:
Finally, here are a couple of more pics of some younger bucks we caught on cam along with a coyote & one more of the big guy

Finally, here's a graph showing what deer are hitting the plot & at what times.

Down Goes Frasier!

My buddy Chuck dropped a GREAT Ohio buck this past weekend.  Ended up being a nice 17-pointer with nice mass & a lot of character.  I had to stop over Saturday to take a look at it myself first hand.  Nice shooting Chuck!  (Click on pics for larger images).

10/29/10 Avon Woods Hunt

I'll be hitting our Avon woods tonight & this weekend.  Weather looks great and reports from the group sound like the bucks are starting to chase a little.  Definitely going to try some can-flipping & rattling from our Pond Stand.  If all goes well, might even be able to get a shot off at the buck that's been showing up in our trail cam picks below (Thanks Joe)!  The Chatham boys will be at it as well this weekend so hopefully we'll have some nice results to put up here sometime soon.  Good luck!

Reading Time

Here's a nice read about some of the pros and cons of Tree Stand Hunting.

Never heard of the fishing line suggestion in these Bow Hunting Tips.

Some pretty cool/interesting Coyote Pics here taking down a deer.  Joe - maybe one day you'll get pics like these of all those coyotes by your stand.

I can definitely see our buddy Red doing something similar to this guy's 18 Years Of Whitetail Study.

There's a pretty cool product mentioned in this article about Grunting.

Check out this Rut Map and see what your neck of the woods is looking like.

I've had some great hunts using a decoy, here are some solid Decoy Tips.

Speaking of decoys - it looks like our farmer has started to cut the soy beans this week in the four bean fields we hunt.  It's always a great time to use the decoy so I may try that this week in a ground blind on bean field #4.

Good Luck!

News Articles

Here's a couple of updates from the local rag here (The Plain Dealer).

For my Michigan buddies - this seems like some good news: Michigan Deer Herd Update

Here's a monster taken in Ohio opening weekend after the hunter put in some serious prep: Geauga County Monster

And finally, I have to give a shout-out to Ryan Buddie.  I went to grade school with him back in the day.  Some awesome news for him & a big congratulations: Walleye Anglers Of The Year

Evening Hunt 9/29/10

Luckily my seminar got out early today so I hit the woods. Before climbing up I set out a grain block and some apples where I've been seeing most of the deer come through. It was a pretty still evening in the mid 60's with occasional 2-9mph breezes out of the Southeast. Didn't look like much was going to happen, but right at 7:20 I had a deer come in. I was about to draw back thinking it was a doe, but spotted a small set of antlers on him. Turned out to be a little 4-pointer who hung out eating leaves 8 yards from the stand for about 10 minutes or so. By the time he walked away it was time to call it a day.

I'm off to a wedding today, so hoping to hit the woods this Sunday evening after all the festivities. Below are a couple pics of the "Pond Stand" I've been hunting (thanks Joe).
